Talking the Walk

Update: I lost 2.4 pounds this week at my weigh in. Of course, my darling husband (I swear, I need to let maintenance be HIS problem and stop trying to fix him because it's killing my losses...) lost 4 pounds this week, so he's back to being 6 pounds UNDER his damn goal... exercise has been good this week, and if I could just figure out why I'm so angry all the time, everything would be peachy...

So... tomorrow starts week three of my experimental "Can Lynn finally kick this freaking soda habit?"

Let's be clear, here. My objection to soda isn't the caffeine, or the chemicals or whatever it is that everyone seems to think is so horrible about soda.

My problem is how expensive it's gotten recently.

When the grocery stores are offering 2 for $11 as the SALE price, that's too much. Especially when, given a choice between pouring myself a bottle of water, mixing in a flavor packet, and drinking it or grabbing a soda, I'll grab the soda every time.

If it's in the house, I will drink it.

Even if it's Root Beer or Dr. Pepper or something else vile that I don't really like.

Keeping in mind that I'm still a caffiend and I like coffee, I've switched over to that as a source to keep my headaches from blinding me. The thing is, while I'll drink soda all day long, I generally WON'T make more than one pot of coffee (we have a small coffee pot. One pot is actually only 2 cups) in a single day.

I'm not hard-core giving up soda, will never have soda again... but I won't have it in the house.

So far, I'm doing good.

In the last two weeks, I had one Diet Coke when we were out to lunch with my dad, one when we were out dancing/playing pool with friends, and one and a half with pizza.

Four sodas in 2 weeks.

When my normal soda intake is more along the lines of... erm... five or six a day

I'm fairly impressed with myself; I'm not usually very good (or gracious) about going without my precious carbonation...

And bonus points: While I was at the gym today, I got to feel mildly smug about the girl who came in to work out... and put a diet coke in the drink holder on the elliptical...

I will only drink soda when we go out to eat, so maybe once a week. I drink only water/iced tea at home. If we happen to go out more than once in a week i limit myself to soda only once. I have found over time that I would rather have drinks without the carbonation in them, which makes me happy.

I've cut back on soda and I find my stomach likes me so much better. We went out to dinner tonight and I skipped the soda and asked for water. Of course they had the nastiest tap water in the world and I had to whip out a crystal light but at least I didnt' drink soda LOL

I too cut back on soda when I first started my healthy journey - I went cold turkey. I got headaches the first couple of weeks but whoa baby, I have learned so much more about myself! I actually can pinpoint when I start to feel dehydrated which is normally about now on a Sunday night, because I don't drink as much water on the weekends as I do during the week. Good luck kicking the habit; you'll feel a ton better once you do!

I don't drink soda in my normal everyday life. However, I did drink a lot of it while on vacation. I am on a new challenge, only drink water when we go out. That's when I usually mess up everything with my food.

Wow..I haven't been here in a lil bit--but 65 lbs!!!! WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. So, this is what happens when you actually stick with it!! Amazing and well done..and also WELL DONE on the soda habit..I have 5-6 cans a day..and YEA--It's COSTLY!!! (let alone what else it's doing to us). A friend just told me she is getting the "lap band" sugery and they told her NO SODA b/c it could deteriorate the band!! Yikes..
You can totally kick the habit..you have already put in 4 weeks..and the hardest part is usually the beginning. You are doing great and I must come here more often for much needed inspiration. WELL DONE!!

First, is it bad that I titled the link to your blog on my new blogroll "My Evil Twin"? :-)

Secondly, I'm emailing you the address.

Thirdly, go YOU! Soda's such a hard habit to kick. I'm working on it right now too - because of GERD mostly, but the price is definitely an issue too - and having trouble with it. But definitely seeing progress. So let's be smug together; smug is good. :-)

I think that's a great idea, not keeping it in the house. Like you I will pick it over water every time!!!

WOW! You're doing great on kicking the soda habit. I also drink a LOT of diet coke every day (despite cuting back a little bit) but am very worried about the no-caffeine headaches since I don't drink coffee. You're an inspiration on the weight loss front AND the kicking the soda habit front.

I'm very very impressed! I've tried, I have not been successful. I blogged about it even AND did the math, yeah, that did even guilt me into it! I HATE how dependant I am, its one of the first things I do every single morning! Maybe in Feb! :-)

You inspire me and give me hope that I, too, can overcome the addiction. As sad as it sounds, I could care less about the chemicals at this point, but the $$$ do add up.

Usually we have 2 kinds of soda in the house (full-on sugary Coke for the hubby and Diet A&W for me). I've been trying to cut out my own kind and limit sampling of his kind. Not easy.

It's funny that I read this post tonight. I was on my way to spend the night with my girlfriend at her mom's house and I stopped at the store to get something to drink. I went in and paid for a 2 liter and I aid over 2 bucks for it. I got in the car and I said I am never buying pop again. 2 dollars... I remember the good ol' days when a 2 liter was like 79 cents. Ah well. It's probably for the best. Congratz on the losses.

P.S. I liked the EQ Twitter.
